Eco Council
Welcome to Eco Council!
Our Eco Council is made up of two representatives from each Year group (Year 1 to Year 6).
The council changes each year and new children are elected.
About our Eco Council
At Aston-on-Trent, we aim to make our school an environment where children appreciate and respect their natural world. By holding an Eco council, children can have a voice and make important decisions on how we as a school can ensure our environment is protected.
Each year, our first meeting starts by completing an environmental review to help us create our yearly agenda.
Our Eco Council meets up fortnightly to review our progress with the agenda, review the impact our changes are having and reflect on what further changes are needed.
Our aim for this year is to work towards earning an Eco- School Green Flag award. Through completing an environmental review, the children have identified their 3 main aims for this year. These are to begin to recycle and encourage recycling, reduce water wastage across the school and to grow our own vegetables.
Through having our action plan and identifying our areas for development, we are now proud to announce that we have partnered up with Terracycle in a bid to encourage recycling not only in the school but in our homes too. From holding a whole-school vote, the children have chosen the following 3 schemes:
- The cheese packaging programme
- The Warburtons packaging programme
- The Carex recycling programme
Please see the attached documents for more information on what packaging is accepted by the company to be recycled.
For each kilogram of waste that we collect, we will be rewarded with 100 Terracycle points, with each point being worth 1 penny. The minimum weight of packaging that needs to be collected before it can be sent in to be recycled is 6kg, so we really need your support to help us to get to our 6kg target!

Latest Mission...
Our Eco Council team have worked incredibly hard on launching their latest mission to reduce toilet paper waste and prevent blockages! Our children expressed that this was something they wanted to try and tackle. By putting their heads together, they have created some amazing posters to remind everyone of the importance of using only what is needed. The children wanted to create a KS1 version and a KS2 version. What a brilliant job they have done!
Eco School Status!
We have done it! We are super excited to inform you that we have achieved eco school status! Well done to Miss Dawes and her Eco Council for all their hard work to get this massive achievement!
