Achieving success for all

Eco Council

Welcome to Eco Council!

Our Eco Council is made up of two representatives from each Year group (Year 3 to Year 6).

The council changes each year and new children are elected.

About our Eco Council

At Aston-on-Trent, we aim to make our school an environment where children appreciate and respect their natural world. By holding an Eco council, children can have a voice and make important decisions on how we as a school can ensure our environment is protected.

Each year, our first meeting starts by completing an environmental review to help us create our yearly agenda. We having two meetings every half term.

Our focus over the last year has been to improve water wastage throughout the school. Our Eco- Council worked alongside Severn Trent to gain ideas on what could be done in school to help them accomplish their goal. The children created fantastic posters to encourage everyone to not leave the taps running after washing their hands and to reduce over using toilet paper. Through monitoring this, the council could see a big improvement and were happy to see water waste being reduced. As well as this, when watering the plants around the school environment, water collected in our water butts were used where possible.

Latest Mission...

Our Eco Council team have worked incredibly hard on launching their latest mission to reduce toilet paper waste and prevent blockages! Our children expressed that this was something they wanted to try and tackle. By putting their heads together, they have created some amazing posters to remind everyone of the importance of using only what is needed. The children wanted to create a KS1 version and a KS2 version. What a brilliant job they have done!
